A. COLLEGE EXAMINATIONS
There shall be First Terminal, Annual, Pre Test and Test Examinations during the 1st and 2nd Year classes respectively at the +2 stage in Arts/Science/Commerce.
(i) Every student is required to appear at all these examinations during a session. A student who absents himself from any of the examinations is to be fined as per the Staff council decision unless he applies to the Principal in writing with supporting evidences for exemption from fines.
(ii) A student who is found in possession of incriminating material or copying or taking any improper advantage in the examination hall be refused promotion or be penalized in any other manner which is deemed proper.
B. COUNCIL OF HIGHER SECONDARY EDUCATION, ORISSA EXAMINATION ACT AND REGULATIONS, 1982 EXTRACTS
1. Eligibility:
Students registered under the Council are eligible to appear at the Annual Examination in Arts/Science / Commerce stream. For the purpose of such examination as a regular course of study a candidate should satisfy the Council that
- (i) He/She has completed not less than two academic sessions after passing the High School Examination conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Orissa or some other examination recognized by the Council as equivalent there to in one or more affiliated institutions recognized by the Council for the purpose of such examination.
- (ii) He / she has completed one academic year after passing qualifying examination conducted by the C.B.S.E/ I.C.S.E and Board of Secondary Education of other States in India and has been promoted to 2nd year class on the basis of the examination conducted by the institution in the first year.
- (iii) A candidate can take the Higher Secondary Examination in Arts, Commerce privately only on production of proficiency certificate from the Head of an institution.
2. Restriction :
- (i) No candidate shall be permitted to take up the Second Examination in any subject which he had not offered at the preceding Annual Examination.
- (ii) No student shall be allowed to appear at the examination unless he/she is registered
3. Admission of Ex-regular/Private candidates :
- (i) A student who has passed the Higher Secondary Examination will be permitted to appear at the same examination subsequently in any subject in which he has not already passed without attending a regular course of study in an institution
- (ii) A student who takes up a subject in which a practical course is prescribed shall have to produce a certificate from the Head of institution to the effect that he/she has completed the prescribed practical course in that subject.
4. According to New Course structure there shall be one examination conducted by the Jr. College at the end of the 1st year basing on the curriculum meant for that year and one examination at the end of the Ilnd year to be conducted by the council basing on the curriculum meant for that year alone. The examination at the end of 1st Year shall be for 750 marks (including 100 marks for Environmental Education & 50 marks of Yoga) and the examination at the end of Ilnd Year shall be for 600 marks. Marks secured in the examination to be conducted at the end of 1st year shall be considered for promotion of students to the Ilnd year class. But pass certificate will be awarded to the successful candidates basing on the performance in the council examination to be held at the end of Ilnd year only.
5. These regulations may be called the Orissa Higher Secondary Education (Amendment) Regulations, 2007. They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Orissa Gazette. In the Orissa Higher Secondary Education Regulations, 1982 (hereinafter referred to as the said regulations) in Chapter- VIII, for regulations 115, the following regulations shall be, substituted namely
“115 Each written paper on every subject in Arts, Science or Commerce, where there is no provision for practical examination shall be three hours duration and shall carry 100 marks. In subjects where there is a provision for practical examination each written paper shall be of the three hours duration and shall carry 70 marks each and the practical examination of three hours duration shall carry 30 marks. In Biology there shall be one theory paper each in Botany and Zoology for two hours each carrying 35 marks and in practical, there shall be one examination for Botany and another examination for Zoology of two hours duration carrying 15 marks each. However, for every theory Examination, 15 minutes extra time will be given to the students before commencement of the Examination to read the question paper with effect from Annual Higher Secondary Examination, 2007.”
In the said regulations, in Chapter-VII in regulation 121, in sub-regulations (4)
(i) The part-1, against Serial Number (ii), after the word Urdu, the following shall be added, namely “Sanskrit’, and
(ii) In part-III, relating to the heading Elective in Group-B, against item 4, after the word Economics, the following shall added, namely ”Sanskrit’.
Note: The provisions relating to items 3 above shall be effective from the Academic Session 2008-09.
